When I was beginning my family, I started researching the correlation between product consumption and the body. My skin had never been worse, and while creating new life I learned how not just what we eat, but our skincare can affect our whole body.
It is apparent that many of our generation and those before us are experiencing painful periods, heavy cycles, amenorrhea (loss of cycles), trouble getting pregnant, worsening skin conditions yet we're somehow using the "best" products out.
Did you know that your self care products could be directly linked to your painful periods or heavy cycles? It is because of hidden endocrine disrupters. Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that can mimic, block, or alter the actions of natural hormones, leading to various reproductive and menstrual issues and they are in many beauty and self care products currently.
ARE YOU CURIOUS HOW THESE CHEMICALS CAN CAUSE INTERNAL ISSUES?
Prostaglandin Production: Prostaglandins are hormone-like substances that regulate muscle contractions in the uterus. High levels of prostaglandins can cause intense uterine contractions, leading to severe menstrual cramps. Endocrine disruptors could increase the production of prostaglandins, which can then cause worsening period pain.
Hormonal Imbalance: Endocrine disruptors can increase estrogen levels or mimic its effects, reaching a state known as estrogen dominance. High levels of estrogen can cause the uterine lining to thicken excessively, resulting in heavy, painful periods.
Progesterone Levels: Progesterone is a hormone that helps regulate the menstrual cycle and reduce inflammation. Lower levels of progesterone caused by these endocrine disruptors can contribute to menstrual pain.
Studies have found correlations between high levels of endocrine disruptors, like phthalates, fragrance and BPA and menstrual irregularities. These same studies have also shown that exposure to endocrine disruptors can lead to reproductive issues and altered pain responses.
WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE NATURAL PRODUCTS:
Since the United States government doesn't want to regulate the skincare companies to disclose the potential harm these chemicals can cause, it us up to us as consumers to stay up to date and make informed decisions for us and our families. Choose personal care products labeled as free from phthalates, parabens, fragrances and BPA. Also, opting for products that naturally occur whenever possible. This is why I am passionate about making clean skincare- because you deserve to know that what you are putting on your body has been made with good intentions and the safest ingredients.
Reducing exposure to chemicals and adopting a healthier lifestyle can help mitigate these effects and potentially reduce menstrual discomfort. Choosing natural is a no brainer. Shop Now
